Visiting the Fire Station in Stara Zagora
With the youngest participants in our foundation – kids in first and second school year – we could acquire better knowledge for one useful profession – fireman.
On July 13th we visited the fire station in Stara Zagora. The firefighters took us around. They shown us the fire trucks and their training ground, and demonstrated us how they use it. This was very impressive for the kids.
The profession of firefighter is a prestige job and a good example of being useful for the society. These are two things that we wish to develop in the students we work with.
Bukviada
„Bukviada” (from Bulgarian „bukvi“ = „letter0s“) – Olympics with letters games rushed about 30 Roma kids from the Roma district of Stara Zagora on 24 May. This event was organized by Don Bosko Bulgaria Foundation.
24 May is Saints Cyril and Methodius’ Day. In Bulgaria it is celebrated as the „Bulgarian Education and Culture, and Slavonic Literature Day“ and it is usually connected with the development of the Cyrillic alphabet in the First Bulgarian Empire.
Before the competition, Cyril and Methodius – dressed workers for the foundation – explained to the kids the meaning of the feast.
The competition was in different disciplines – creative, logic and sport. The success was measured not in points, but in letters.
Most of the games includes tasks connected with Cyrillic. At the end all of the Bukviada players were rewarded according to their own choice. There was a shop where the kids bought different things, trading with their letters.
The Bukviada was organized for forth consecutive year. The aim is in a fun way the kids form the Roma district to learn something about the development of our alphabet. It is interesting that this competition devoted to the Cyrilic alphabet was organized by volunteers from Moravia, Czech, where the disciples of Cyril and Methodius came from. The volunteers this year were Magdalena Braunerowa nad Jana Petruchova.
