Winter camp for girls „Abraham and Sarah“
On 11-13 February our foundation perfofmed a winter camp for Roma girls from the Center for Rehabilitation and Social Integration in Starza Zagora. Tha place was the center for childen and youths “Oasis” in Kazanlak. The topic was “Abraham and Sarah” – two Biblical heroes, who inspired us for the stage game during the camp.
12 girls came to the place of the camp. They were welcomed by 3 girls, who seemed to be form Israel. After the dinner, unexpected guest came – the Biblical patriarch Abraham. All of the girls were put into the role of Sarah. Abraham wanted to marry Sarah, but he had some conditions for her before the marriage. In a game, the girls had to mill flour from grains, to knit a little blanket and to make clothes from textile pieces. Then Abraham came to see the results. He realized that they had managed well and there would be a marriage.
The girls also enjoyed a little excursion to the “Koprinka” dam. When they went back, Abraham told them that they will have important guests and Sarah must prepare the dinner. The girls were separated to three teams. Each team had to make a stake, a salad and a desert. The guests really came for the dinner. Arter the dinner there was a game with all the places were Abraham and Sarah moved to. There were also many other games connected with the history. The goal was both fun and the girls to learn some skills.
Winter Camp for Roma Boys
Since the arrival of the boys, they were put into trouble like the Biblical hero Joseph. Some warriors surrounded the incoming bus. Then they were taken captive by slave merchants and sold to the Egyptian pharaoh
As his slaves, they had to keep strict discipline – to wake up early, to prepare food, even to feed pharaoh’s animals and to fulfill other pharaoh’s commandments. They were even put into a prison.
One night the pharaoh had a dream, which made him upset. The young slaves had the possibility to give the explanation of this dream. They did it, succeeding to reveal a mysterious code. As a gratitude, the pharaoh set them free.
The goal of this stage game was we to teach the boys some valuable skills and to show them that like the biblical hero Joseph, we can advance, despite our present social condition. The boys had a great fun during all their slavery and gained some new skills.
